OPEN SOURCE CULTURE
DEFINING THE CULTURE
When you encounter an open-source group for the first time, it may be a bewildering experience. Whether posting to a mailing list for the first time, blogging about the project you’re taking on or hanging out on a discord - the way people interact, and what they expect from each other is pretty different than in the classroom or with friends and family
It started in the 90’s and has since undergone a lot of evolution. But the very essence of open source goes much further than simply accessing the source code or designs of an idea/project.
THE IDEA TURNED TO LIFE
In the context of open or inner source, it has no limits. Developers around the world share their work with a wide audience, not just with their manager or team. Everyone is welcome and decisions are based on merit, not imposed.
THE QUALITY GUARANTEE
YES, IT'S TRENDING. BUT WHY?
Cost is a big reason, since it is zero. Open source is essentially free. There are no licensing, subscription, or copyright costs associated with the source. The company can therefore significantly reduce its expenses but also the time spent to release a product.
The less time and cost you spend on your product, the more you save your customers. The more you save in time and costs, the lower the price of your product will be.
Behind every open source project there is a community united around one objective: to achieve the most powerful, functional, reliable and secure solution.
Contributors in these communities are passionate about what they do and are motivated by the recognition that other members show for their work. The resulting solutions – even if they spend less time developing them are therefore often of better quality.
LEARN WHILE YOU CONTRIBUTE
Learning a new skill is always exciting. Specially when u can experiment at the same time. Giving the community a sense of self-growth as well is a major reason why e-learning is a hit while working remotely. One can learn from the professionals and can ask questions on a forum with real examples. It's competitive, & healthy for everyone especially beginners.
OPEN SOURCE VS PROPRIETARY
THE ONE GOAL LOGIC
Unlike proprietary technologies, open source is a model in its very conception. It is about people who have collaborated for one goal, that of building a technology that can be used by everyone. It shows the ability of people to cooperate for a common goal, for which they may not necessarily derive personal benefit.
